All that portion ofold McKeesport, above Fifth street, was an open common and itafforded a splendid field for these annual drills and inspections,the date of which was always looked upon as a general holidayfor the people. Everybody turned out to see or to take part inthe round up, which was always followed by a series of amuse-ments, joined in by 30ung and old, and where the soldier boyplayed havoc with the heart of the simple maiden.
