In the same congregation a very remarkableconversion of a devil-dancer and sorcerer occurredin 1881. This dancer v^as named Kali, after theQueen of the Demons. He performed the cere-monies at the annual festival, singing heathensongs, and exciting the assembled multitude and thedevil-dancers. Being of a respectable family, and greatlyesteemed by the people, as well as their cleverestsongster and dancer, he made much money by thiswork, and became rich. It was the general beliefthat the dancers obtained the demoniacal possessionthrough the influence of his exciting soiigs. This man used to persecute the Christians bywords and deeds, and showed much hatred to the CONVERSION THROUGH PRO VIDENCES. 77 servants of God; and in this dreadful state hecontinued up to his eightieth year. But three of hisfellow-priests were suddenly cut off within a year byinsufferable and incurable diseases.
