Berliner Schloss, Berlin Palace Reconstruction as the Humboldt Forum commenced in 2013 To be major cultural venue housing museum, theatre, auditorium. The Berlin Palace (Berliner Schloss) on museum island was a royal palace (Königliches Schloss) and the main residence of the House of Hohenzollern from 1443 to 1918. It was extended to plans by Andreas Schlüter between 1689 to 1713 and was considered a major work of Prussian Baroque architecture. It was badly damaged by Allied bombing in World War II and the East German authorities demolished the palace in 1950. The palace is now being reconstructed (architect Franco Stella) and is due to open in 2020
