MASONRY Engraving by the American Mason, J. Curtis, and published by John Cole (probably in Philadelphia) in 1801. based on a similar 'mystic Portrait' published by Arlingham, in London, 1754. The original image was intended as a parody of Masonry - an assembled Mason, constructed from certain of the symbols used in the Masonic Lodge: for example, his arms are made from the Square, his legs from the two pillars of Boaz and Jachin.
