The housewas built at least in 1751, and probablymuch earlier. It was the residence of onebranch of the talented Dulany family andwas occupied by them from to 1808,and the cession of the ground to the gov-ernment as Fort Severn, became the resi-dence of the Commander of the Fort andso remained until 1845, when the fort wastransferred to the Navy Department foruse as a naval academy.
