Steve Reich (wearing hat) - Laureates of the 2006 Praemium Imperiale art awards, Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006. All laureates receive an honorarium of 15 million Yen, and a medal. The Japan Art Association, giver of the awards, is the oldest cultural foundation in Japan, established in 1887. The laureates are chosen each year by an international jury, from a list of nominees put forward by advisors. The awards are held annually in Tokyo in the presence of Prince and Princess Hitachi.
