Masjid Umar Mosque, Evington,Leicester, East Midlands


The Masjid Umar Mosque was designed by a firm of local architects, Kent Porter Warren and built in a cost of £ 95% of which was raised by the local Muslim community. The main prayer hall can hold 400 worshippers and addition prayer accommodation can be provided in the 10 classrooms. The call to prayer is amplified and broadcast from loudspeakers on the four illuminated minarets at each corner and can be heard across Evington. The The dome is surrounded by windows which are operated by remote control. The inside of dome has Arabic calligraphy from the Quran painted by Hassan-Al-Misry. Islamic Madressa classes are provided for two hours each day for young boys and girls.
