Cook landing in the New Hebrides. Captain James Cook landing at Tanna, one of the islands in the New Hebrides. Cook was in the New Hebrides from 4 June to 13 September 1774 on his second voyage with the ships 'Adventure' and 'Resolution'. Cook holds the green branch that he had learnt signified peace and friendship in the local cultures. This 1840 lithograph by Honegger is after Fahnlein, which was based on Hodges's painting of 1775.
