In treating circumscribed aneurisms, traumatic as well as spontaneous, ligatures have been applied according tothe plans of Anel, Hunter, and Brasdor, as well as according to the methodof Antyllus, which is the old operation. On July 14, 18G3,1 ligatured the left subclavian artery, on Hunters plan, for circum-scribed traumatic aneurism, in a Confederate captain, aged 31, who, on June 21, hadbeen shot through the left shoulder by a conoidal carbine-ball which severed the axil-lary artery. The bleeding ceased spontaneously, the wound healed kindly, and the Med. and Surg. History of tho War of the Kebellion, First Surg. VoL, p. hAf>.2 No. for October, 1865, pp. 417, 418. TRAUMATIC ANEURISM. 243. Diagram showing where the ligature is applied in Anels, Hunters, Brasdors, and Wardrops operations. (A.)In Anels operation the ligature is applied to the artery on the cardiac side of the lesion, but between it and thefirst collateral branch. (H.) In Hunters operation the liga, ture is applied to the main trunli on the cardiac sideof the lesion, at a i>oint much further from the lesion, and above the first collateral branch. (B.) In Brasdorsoperation the ligature is applied to the main trunlc on the distal side of the lesion. (W.) In Wardrops modificationof Brasdors operation, the ligature is applied to a branch on the distal side of the lesion. lesion of the artery gave no trouble until July 12, when a circumscribed traumaticaneurism as large as a pullets egg was discovered. Between the 12th and 14th thetumor grew so rapidly that I feared to experiment with compression, lest me
