It tookme but a second to reach the spot, and, parting thegrass, I gazed into my first Teals nest, with its tensmall, creamy eggs, well spattered with excrement,which the bird dropped as she flew. I afterwardsfound that this last is the usual occurrence when aDuck is surprised and flushed from her eggs. Thisnest was well down in the thick dry grass, and wouldhave been practically impossible to discover withoutflushing the bird.
