Chief HE Fire Department of SanFrancisco, as now constituted,consists of a Board of Fire Commis-sioners of four members, a Secre-tary, a Chief Engineer, one First As-sistant Chief Engineer, one SecondAssistant Chief Engineer, elevenBattalion Chiefs, forty-six enginecompanies, twelve hook and laddercompanies, thirteen chemical com-panies, two water tower companies,three monitor batteries, two lireboatcompanies, two relief engine com-panies, and employes of the corpora-tion yard repair shops, departmentstables and auxiliary high pressurewater system, numbering in all 888men, of whom 794 constitute theuniformed force. During the past year the depart-ment responded to 1298 alarms offire received from street and auto-matic fire alarm stations, of whichnumber 1233 were singie alarms, fifty-three second alarms, eleventhird alarms and one fourth alarm.
