During The Battle of Bailleul, 13–15 April, 1918, German troops drove forward, to take Bailleul, 12 kilometres ( mi) west of Armentières, despite increasing British resistance. Only in the late afternoon of 16 April, did German troops begin to close up to the new line, but British troops in the Battle Zone easily repulsed the German infantry.
