This is 13 per cent more than in 1921, and a larger production than the average for ten years past. Nearly all the sugar produced in Hawaii is shipped to continental United States. The total area of sugar cane in Hawaii in 1922 was 229,000 acres, or 16,000 acres less than the average for the eight years. Inasmuch as Hawaiian sugar cane usually is not harvested until it makes more than a year's growth, the total area is about double the harvested acreage in an average year, it is pointed out.
