SHIMODA, Japan (May 17, 2018) Fire Controlman 2nd Class Trevor Christensen mans a .50 caliber machine gun aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) as the ship travels to the 79th Shimoda Black Ship Festival. The 79th Shimoda Black Ship Festival promotes peaceful relations between the Japanese and American people and commemorates the 164th anniversary of the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry to Japan in 1854, an event which marked the beginning of diplomacy and trade agreements between the and Japan.
