A minature of tulips by Georg Hoefnagel (1542-1601), a Flemish painter commissioned by Emperor Rudolf II to illustrate the Mira calligraphiae monumenta (the Model Book of Calligraphy) in which the minature appears. The plants featured were those grown by Charles de l'Ecuse aka Clusius (1526-1609) director of the Leiden Botanic Garden in Holland.
