Alaska National Guardsmen from the 3rd Batallion, 297th Scouts, Alpha Company, armed with M16 rifles, guard the perimeter around the State Trooper's office in Ketchikan, Alaska, which is the primary communication point for all emergency support units during Exercise NORTHERN EDGE 2001. Northern Edge is Alaska's premier joint training exercise, it encompasses all of the state of Alaska and it lasts for two weeks.
