Victoria is suffering from a sustained increase in new infections amid a record testing blitz of 20,000 tests per day in Melbourne’s hotspots. Victoria has recorded 73 new coronavirus cases overnight which brings the total active cases up to 370 since Thursday 25 June. The State Premier, Daniel Andrews announced on Tuesday 30 June that 36 Melbourne suburbs will again be forced into 3rd stage lockdowns at midnight 1st July where residents will only be allowed to leave their house for four reasons; Shopping for food or supplies, care and care giving, exercise and study or work. This comes despite the positive rate of testing remaining stable at indicating that the recent spike is more a function of extra testing, rather than an increase in viral spread. The new restrictions will remain in place for four weeks and will extend to the whole state if the situation does not improve. Whilst most Victorian are doing the right thing, up to 1,000 residents from Broadmeadows refused to take a test. As new infections sharply rise in Victoria, hospitalizations still remain low and stable, where only nine people are in hospital as at 30 June.
