The Golden Pheasant (^Thaicmalea picta) of whichthe Zoological Society possess several examples, andthe Amherst Pheasant (7. ainherstics) are well knownbirds, the palm for beauty being generally given tothe male of the latter species, as to most peoplestastes the Golden Pheasant is too gaudy a bird. TheGolden Pheasant is from Western and Southern China,and the Amherst Pheasant from Western China andKastern Tibet, both species being birds of themountains. The Peacock Pheasant (^Polyplectro7i chinqicis)which belongs to a different group, has its home inIndo-China, and is at a distance
