Of the two 50-feet areas,the smaller but deeper one lies off the entrance to Loch a Mhiotailt, andis three-quarters of a mile in length: it encloses the main 100-feet basinand the maximum depth of the loch (126 feet), which was observedabout 220 yards from the northern shore. The larger 50-feet area liesin the south-eastern portion of the loch, and is two miles in length; itencloses two small 100-feet basins with maximum depths of 113 and103 feet respectively, separated by a rise of the bottom on which the. Thus 75 per cent, of the lake-floor is covered by less than 50 feet ofwater. Loch Veyatie was surveyed on August 29 and September 8,1902, by Messrs. Parsons and Garrett. On commencing the survey on BATHYMETRICAL SURVEY OF FRESH-WATER LOCHS OF SCOTLAND. 185 August 29, the elevation of the lake-surface was determined by levellingfrom bench-mark as being 364/8 feet above the sea; in the intervalbetween the two days devoted to the survey the water rose to theextent of 15 inches, then gradually fell again, and on September 8 theelevation was found to be 365*6 feet above the sea.
