JOHN HART, Known among his coadjutors by the honorable appellation of HonestJohn Hart, was born in New Jersey about the year 1715. and was,therefore, over sixty years of age, and one of the oldest members present,when the Congress of 1776 adopted the Declaration of Independence. He was born the son of a New Jersey farmer, received only the limitedschool education of his day, and, marrying early in life, settled on a farmof his own in Hopewell township. Here he devoted his time to the culti-vation of the soil and the rearing of a large family of children.
