We had probablytravelled more than a mile in our winding course through theravines when the ranger stopped at a hillside covered with fairly densescrub and informed me that here were the Mai lands, clipping theword as is usual in patois. Although the view was far from agood subject for a photograph, and did not, besides, turn out verywell, it is necessary to reproduce it here if only to give an idea ofwhat these Crown lands were like.
