Emperor Theodore II or Tewodros II of Abyssinia or Etheopia advanced up the course of the Bashilo River, with the cannons en route for Magdala where he intended to set up his base against the British force led by Field Marshal Robert Cornelius Napier who led an expeditionary force against Tewodros in July 1867.
