Nanotube drug delivery. Computer artwork showing antioxidant molecules BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) and BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) moving along the inside of a nanotube. Nanotubes are fullerenes, structural types (allotropes) of carbon. It is thought that one day the ability of fullerenes to trap atoms within it might benefit the medical community. For example, they may be used to deliver medicines to specific tissues and cells. Atoms, represented as tubes, are colour-coded: carbon (green), hydrogen (white) and oxygen (red).
