Double-height circulation space of inpatient wing. St Michael's Hospice, Hereford, United Kingdom. Architect: Architype Limited,
The new 2,791m2 inpatient wing at St Michael’s Hospice in Hereford provides accommodation for 20 patients. Designed to provide a non-clinical atmosphere, the scheme features a large glazed entrance area, therapy suites, physiotherapy rooms, and guest suites. The inpatient wing has been arranged around a ‘multi-functional street’ – a double-height circulation space providing discreet seating areas, break-out spaces, and nurse stations. The private inpatient accommodation is provided in five modular ‘clusters’ which include four ensuite bedrooms that open onto a communal living room. These clusters have been planned to maximise daylight while offering each patient access to their own outdoor terrace.
