'Emerald Pool, Peabody-River Glen', 1872. An artist takes a break from painting to fish in a river in the White Mountains, New Hampshire, USA. This is possibly a self portrait of the English-born American illustrator and engraver Harry Fenn (1845-1911), whose initials appear on the open lid of the paintbox. From "Picturesque America; or, The Land We Live In, A Delineation by Pen and Pencil of the Mountains, Rivers, Illustrations on Steel and Wood by Eminent American Artists" Vol. I, edited by William Cullen Bryant.
