Wreaths deposited at the base of a Cross of Sacrifice at a Canadian War Cemetery in France

Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery is a concentration of battlefield burials; almost every unit of the 2nd Corps is represented here. There are 2,793 Canadian soldiers buried in the cemetery, 91 of them unknown. With them lie 79 members of the RCAF killed in the battle of Normandy. A large number of dead soldiers in the cemetery were killed in the battle for the Falaise Pocket in August 1944.
