Shutter Shopping Street, Tsuchiura City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan Recently shutter closing shopping street ( shutter shotengai ) is one of social problem in Japanese local area . Center of the city (around train station) is becoming obsolete. That is caused by motorization and huge shopping mall built in suburb. People buy their daily grocery at huge shopping store. They go there by car or bus. Bus ties from station to shopping mall directly. So few people visit shotengai located center of the city. This phenomenon is occurring all over the Japanese local area.
