It should be built of well-seasoned lumber, be well put together, and shouldalso be substantial looking. It should have agood smooth finish both for looks and durability. See that the machine is perfectly level. Why ?Note the size of the legs and the method of at-taching them to the incubator. Are they easilyremoved for shipment or not? By placing thehand on the front edge of the incubator see if itis squarely and firmly resting on all four legs. If. Open the door and take out allinternal fixtures, including the following: dia-phragm, egg trays, thermometer, and if the in-cubator is equipped wdth nursery drawers removesame with covers. Clean these parts thoroughlyand wash all woodwork, including inside walls,egg trays, etc., with a sponge moistened witha ten per cent solution of creolin. Allow partsto thoroughly dry before replacing them in themachine. Determine whether the machine is of the hotair or hot water type. In the hot water machinenote the presence of tubes or tanks in the top ofthe incubator through which the water hot air, a round metal tube will be seen run-ning from the top of the lamp chamber aboutthree quarters of the way across the top of theincubator, through which the hot air travels.
