Period of Occurrence: There are sight records for the Common Nighthawk from 29 April to 29 October. There is also an early spring date of 23 March from Sedgwick County. Breeding: This goatsucker is a common breeding bird in most areas. There is no formal nest build- ing; the female simply lays the eggs on the ground in gravelly areas, in burned-over pastureland, and even on flat roof tops. The normal clutch size is two. The eggs, which hatch in about 19 days, have a gray base with darker spotting.
