Jugendstil Pilot houses along Spuistraat Vlissingen Netherlands

These characteristic Jugendstil “pilot houses” in Spuistraat Vlissingen/Flushing, were built in 1910 after a design by local architect Petrus Franciscus Smagge (Vlissingen, 1876-1939). They were named after the children of four Belgian Pilots for who they were originally built (Villa Louise, Villa Maria, Villa Blanche and Villa Ivonne). After years of neglect their restoration was finished in 2009 and they have been given a new lease of life as hotel (villa Louise – Bed by the Sea), restaurant and apartment buildings.
