Tourists at the main entrance – with REAL Arbeit Macht Frei slogan above the gates – at Auschwitz Nazi camp in Oswiecim, Poland
Tourist visitors pass through the main entrance – with the real and original 'Arbeit Macht Frei' slogan above the gates – at Auschwitz Nazi death camp in Oswiecim, Poland. "Arbeit macht frei" is a German phrase meaning "work brings freedom" or "work shall set you free/will free you" or "work liberates" and, literally in English, "work makes (one) free". The slogan is well-known for being placed at the entrances to a number of Nazi concentration camps. This original metal sign slogan was subsequently replaced with a reproduction of the authentic arch to preserve the real one in safety. (49)
