A hernia occurs when an organ, such as a loop of the intestine, protrudes from a weak area in the abdominal wall. Here, intestinal adhesions can also be seen. Adhesions are fibrous attachments that form between tissues and organs that are not normally connected. Intestinal adhesions can often occur following abdominal surgery.
