The Atkinson theatre and arts centre in Lord Street, Southport, Merseyside, with ornamental fountain in the foreground

The Atkinson is Southport’s home for music, theatre, art, poetry, literature and history, in the middle of Lord Street. It is housed in The Cambridge Hall, a Grade II listed building donated to the town in 1878 by cotton magnate William Atkinson. Lord Street is the main shopping street of Southport, in Merseyside. It is 1 mile ( km) long, with a roundabout marking each end of the street. There are many water features, gardens and architectural buildings along the entire street, with a mix of residential, commercial and public buildings. It was laid out in the early 19th century. In 1846 the future Emperor of the French, Napoleon III, lived for a brief period in lodgings just off Lord Street. It is claimed the street is the inspiration behind the tree-lined boulevards of Paris. Between 1854 and 1870, Napoleon III orchestrated the reconstruction of the French capital. Source: Wikipedia
