This is a study of red balsam growing in a tropical garden. It measures in x 24 in. The beautiful fuchsia, red and purple blooms are set against the lush green backdrop of the leaves with a dramatic black vignette. The highly saturated colors and thick texture give the piece a luminous quality. When I moved from the cold, long winters of Washington, DC to the never-ending summer of South Florida, I found my love for growing flowers just kept expanding. Growing and nurturing flowers gives me a sense of calm and fulfillment in a world that is sometimes chaotic. In my digital artwork, I try to find a way to convey that sense to the observer in a timeless image.
