Dundee, Tayside, Scotland, UK, May 5th 2016: The Chancellor Rt Hon George Osborne has announced in the Budget this year that the UK Government is making a £5m contribution to the Dundee V&A Waterfront Development Project. The museum which is currently being built on the city's waterfront is due to open in 2018. The cost of the building, designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, has nearly doubled from £45m to £80m. The project to build the V&A Museum of Design Dundee has taken a major step forward with the signing of the construction contract between Dundee City Council and BAM Construction Ltd. Work on site is progressing under the £ million project, with the main building completed by the end of 2017 and will be opened to the public before June 2018. Completion of V&A Dundee will help create hundreds of jobs and inject millions of pounds into the economy. The Scottish Government invests £ in Dundee's Waterfront including funding for the city's railway station and improvement of civic spaces. The money will include funding improvements to Dundee Railway Station and creating 4,500 sq m of new office space. Development of the V&A Museum and digital infrastructure will also benefit from the funding. The main issue is that there are growing concerns about the amount of money being spent on the Dundee Waterfront Development Project with a total of £23M council cuts from the city`s budget, 200 jobs to go at Dundee Council and the rise of unemployment in Dundee City.
