WWII german u-boote shelter in the harbour of Lorient, Brittany.
What is called the Atlantic Wall (Atlantikwall) was a defense fortification running from Norway to South-Western France and built by the nazi Todt organisation during WWII. It didn't prevent the invasion by allied armies. Today, the remains are still very impressive, specially in western Brittany where 2 huge submarine bases have been built , the biggest one in Lorient, the second one in Brest. Both towns have been severly bombed by allies without any damage to the bases. The submarine base of Keroman in Lorient, western France, was the biggest nazi fortification outside Germany during WWII. After 1945 until 1996, the french navy used it as a submarine base. This submarine shelter is within the perimeter of the fishing port of Lorient.
