St Mary le Bow, church in the City of Londoon, rebuilt after the Great Fire of London (1666) by Christopher Wren, 1670-1680. Stone tower and brick church seen from Cheapside. Steeple is almsot a free standing structure, one of the tallest in the City. The iron balcony below the clock is a reference to the medieval Royal Sild, a temporary grandstand for viewing tournaments on Cheapside. Above the square tower, steeple goes from circular section with ring of columns to square temple-like section with obelisk spire.
