This image is taken from within one of the towers of the Castle of Gruyere or more properly ChŠteau de Gruyeres, looking out at another corner and tower of the ChŠteau. The ChŠteau de Gruyeres is situated in the medieval town of Gruyeres and was built in the 13th century. It is a Swiss heritage site of significance and the seat of nobility for centuries which ended in the 16th century, when creditors assumed the responsibility of the castle, the creditors being the towns of Berne and Fribourg. Situated in Switzerland, Gruyeres itself is purchased on a hill and overlooks the Saane valley and Lake of Gruyere, as well as views of the Alps and is home to the famous Gruyere Cheese.
