The huge sandstone walls enclosing Lake Powell in the Utah and Arizona desert enhanced by a low autumn sun.

Lake Powell is a landscape of canyon lands and sandstone mesas. The reservoir is 186 miles long, mostly in Utah but the southern part is in Arizona. The waters are contained by the Glen Canyon Dam. The sandstone cliffs, in places, rise vertically out of the water. The area is best explored by boat where access to many of the flooded canyons can be gained.
