He had two horses killedunder him and was slightly wounded,but did not leave the field. At Fred-ericksburg he led his men boldly tothe Confederate works. In the Battleof Chancellorsville, Meades corpscarried the earth-works and foughtfearlessly. On the twenty-eighthday of June, in 1863, Meadeassumed command of the Army of thePotomac.
