Mars exploration. Artwork representing a spaceship orbiting around the planet Mars. A manned mission to Mars has been a long standing goal of the space community. The US Space Commission has planned such mission in the second decade of the 21st century. The spaceship should be assembled on a permanently-manned base on the Moon. The lunar low-gravity environment will ease the construction of all the structures needed and the launch of the spaceship to Mars.
