Photograph of American Ships and Landing Craft Approaching Saipan. A Jap's-Eye-View at Saipan. This is the disconcerting sight which met the eyes of Japanese defenders of Saipan when they looked seaward on that D-Day morning three weeks ago. As far as the eye can see are American ships and landing craft of many types, each loaded with battle-ready troops and moving shoreward. This remarkable picture was made by a Coast Guard combat photographer from a Coast Guard-manned landing boat.
