Roman fish tank or fish farm in ancient Lambousa, North Cyprus.
Ancient Lambousa on the coast of North Cyprus to the west of Kyrenia. It was thought to be founded by the Phoenicians around 8C BC. It developed to an important trading centre and prospered for many centuries, until the Arab raids of the 7C drove the inhabitants to settle inland, in nearby Lapta. All that remains to be seen now is the necropoplis with good examples of Rock cut tombs and the Roman fish pool. In 1905 there was an important discovery of treasure which can now be seen in museums in Cyprus, London and New York.
