A genaral view of the Vajont dam on the day of the 48th anniversary of the tragedy that killed more than 2000 people. On the night of the 9th October 1963 a landslide of about 260 million cubic meter of forest, earth, and rock , fell into the reservoir at up to 110 km per hour. The resulting displacement of water caused 50 million m³ of water to over-top the dam in a 250 m high wave.
