The kidneys un-dergo atrophic, sclerotic and other degenerative changes whichare so like the pathological: changes found in interstitial nephritisthat it is often impossible to distinguish between them at post-mortem examinations. The recent discovery of a progressiveincrease of connective-tissue fibers between the apex of thepyramids—the increase continuing from birth to death inold age—is as far as known the only histological manifestationof ageing which does not appear as a pathological Colomc Pouch.
