Milding—Tree remarkably hardy; a strong, vigorous, upright grower; very productive of large, fair fruit; very desirable and hardy; sub-acid, yellow, with red stripe. January. Monmouth Pippin (Red Cheek Pippin)—Large: greenish yellow, with a fine red cheek; juicy, tender and good. Tree erect, vigorous and productive. Keeps well till March or April. Newtown Pippin—Yellow—Medium to large, roundish, yellow : very firm, crisp, juicy, with a high agreeable flavor. This most celebrated of American Apples is a slow, feeble grower, with rough bark; requires high culture, and then only suc- ceeds in certain localities. November to June. Nod head (Jewett's Fine Red)—Medium sized; greenish white, striped and splashed with crimson, having a dull, greyish bloom; flesh tender, juicy, almost sweet. Popular in Northern New England on account of its great hardiness. A great grower and bearer, but needs well manured land. Northern Spy—Large, roundish, slightly conical, somewhat ribbed; striped, with the sunny side nearly covered with purplish red. Flesh white and tender, with a mild, sub-acid, rich and delicious flavor in perfection in January and keeps till June.
