The Corbett National Park is one of the most national parks for the conservation of the tiger population in India. Located in North India, amidst the Himalayas, it is a sprawling location housing tigers, wild elephants, leopards and many other animals. It also draws a large number of river RamGanga flows through the national park and also houses alligators. Corbett National Park is a very old national park, the oldest such park in India. The park is named after Jim Corbett, a former hunter who became a conservationist (he was also famous for killing many man-eaters who had terrorized villagers in the hilly regions of North India) and is famous for hosting a number of Royal Bengal tigers, an endangered species and is an integral part of Project Tiger (a project to save the tiger in India). The area of the park is approximately 520 square km of core area and 800 square km of buffer area, with a diverse geological surface having hills, rivers, and grass lands. The height of different parts of the park varies from 400m to 1200m. Tourists are allowed into specific areas of the park but are restricted from the core area.
