BREEDERS AND GROWERS 49 Days Number 101. 86 Very similar to No. 615, from which it was selected by the Hollister Seed Co., but coarser. Relatively slow to bolt. Oak Leaf, 40 An old, loose-leaf variety of tender texture, and resistant to heat. Leaves somewhat similar in outline to large oak leaves, medium green, compactly set. Pennlake, 80 Head compact and well colored, protected from scald by broad wrapper leaves. Less ribby than Great Lakes but solid, uniform and resistant to tipburn. A cross between Great Lakes and Imperial 847. PREMIER GREAT LAKES, 75 Head solid, practically round, up to 7" in diameter and two pounds in weight. Slow to bolt and rather resistant to tipburn. Outer leaves smooth, not ruffled at edge. Uniform in heading. A good strain. Prize Head, 47 An early non-heading sort for home garden use. Plants of medium size, crisp and tender; color light reddish brown on a medium green base; leaves crumpled and highly frilled at the edges. Progress, 82 Leaves thick, dark green, heavily savoyed. Relatively resistant to tipburn. Apparently adapted to the same areas as No. 44 and of better Premier Great Lakes: an early, solid-headed strain.
