When the splint 272 FRACTURES OF THE FEMUR has been applied and the patient is in bed, the nurse should beinstructed in certain manceuvers. The bed-pan is adjusted bypassing the arm under both limbs or below the knees and thenlifting directly upward, making an incline of the whole patientbelow the chest-band. By this manoeuver it is also more easyto smoothe out wrinkles in the bedding and change the sheetthan in the usual way. The stem should be made to press upon.
