Somerset House, the Strand, London, 19th century. Designed by Sir William Chambers, Somerset House originally housed public offices, including the Navy Board and the three principal learned societies. It was later converted to house three art collections: the Gilbert Collection, the Hermitage Rooms and Courtauld Institute of Art Gallery. On the left is the church of St Mary-le-Strand, designed by James Gibbs.
